Smart contracts in fleet management: Daimler relies on the know-how of Bitcoin Revolution startups
Daimler AG is working with four blockchain startups to develop smart contract solutions for vehicle fleet operators.
Daimler AG has selected four blockchain startups with which the group wants to jointly implement smart contract solutions for fleet operators and providers of rental vehicles or mobility services. Daimler announced this in a blog post about the virtual event Startup Autobahn Expo 8 held in September.
Daimler relies on smart contracts
“Startup Autobahn” is an innovation platform founded on the initiative of Daimler AG, which carries out two three-month programs each year with an Expo Day at the end.
As the company writes in its contribution to the upcoming Expo Day, which had to take place virtually this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, Daimler scouted four blockchain startups to work on their own Mobility Blockchain platform.
The startups Ontology, Spherity, Riddle & Code and 51nodes will support Daimler AG in the development of smart contract solutions for the mobility sector in its own blockchain factory . The department, founded in 2018, has been researching blockchain technology and implementing its own blockchain projects for the group and its subsidiaries since 2018.
As Daimler writes, as part of the partnership with the aforementioned blockchain startups, the company’s own “Mobility Blockchain platform will be taken to the next level and digital identities and blockchain wallets for customers, companies and vehicles will be added”.
With the platform, customers should be able to process transactions for fleet and rental transactions fully automatically. As the head of the Blockchain Factory at Daimler emphasizes, a common marketplace for the delivery of services has already been set up:
“Together with our partners, we have built this blockchain-based marketplace on the basis of digital identities, a distributed ledger and smart contracts to enable a fully digitized delivery of services – this includes the signing, booking and billing of every transaction. We have thus taken an important step towards an Internet and an economy of things. “
Daimler and blockchain
In addition to its Mobility Blockchain platform, the Mercede Benz parent company Daimler AG is also working on other blockchain projects for the automotive sector. In cooperation with the Southeast Asian subsidiary Ocean Protocol, a pilot project for the monetization of company data via a blockchain was started .
Boerse Stuttgart has also worked with Daimler Mobility and other partners to develop a blockchain-based financing method for industrial capital goods .
